Black Cat Craft

For this 3D cat craft you will need one piece of black construction paper, a half sheet of pink construction paper, some small pieces of scrap construction paper for the eyes and a little bit of white for the whiskers. You will also need a bottle of glue, and a stapler for this craft. To attach it to the wall you will need a tack, some string or dental floss and a small nail.

Black Cat Craft

Start by making a fortune teller out of construction paper. Here are some directions for making a fortune teller.

Staple the top and bottom sections together to create a mouth that only opens in one direction.

For the Eyes: When you want to make two shapes of the same size, fold a piece of paper and cut your shape out once. You will then have two identical shapes. You can use this technique to make the eyes and ears for your cat. For the eyes, fold a small piece of green paper in half and cut out a small circle to make 2 green eyes. Fold a small piece of black paper in half and cut out the shape to make 2 cat’s pupils. (If anyone knows what the shape of a cat’s pupil is called, please let me know!) Glue these onto the eyes and then glue the eyes onto the face.

For the Ears: Fold a piece of black construction paper in half and cut out a triangle to make two matching ears. Attach the ears by gluing them to the back side of the face.

Cut out two smaller pink triangles using the folding technique. Glue these onto the ears.

For the Nose: Cut out a pink triangle and round off the edges.  Then glue it in place.

For the Mouth: Cut out four red triangles that will fit into each section in the mouth. This part can be a little tricky but you can do it! Once you make one triangle that fits you can use it as a template and cut three more in the same shape.

For the Teeth: Cut out small white triangles and tuck them under the red paper in the mouth.  Fold them so they are not sticking straight out.

Whiskers:  You can make whiskers by cutting very thin strips of construction paper.  Glue the ends of the whiskers to the cat’s cheeks. When you are done with your cat, you can attach some string to the back and hang it on the wall.  To do this, push a small nail through one of the folds on the back of the fortune teller to create an anchor. Place a loop of string or floss on the nail and attach to the wall with a tack.
