  • Additional construction paper and scraps of various colors
  • Glue Sticks

Directions

1. Assemble the space ship, using various shapes of construction paper.

2. Decorate the background by cutting out planets and stars and gluing them onto the black construction paper (space stickers would also work well for this part.)

3. Create a Portal to Outer Space with Paper Plates

Source: http://funfamilycrafts.com/space-ship-porthole/

I couldn’t find directions for this cute craft but it looks like it was made by using two paper plates, construction paper, pipe cleaners, and aluminum foil. Here is how I would make this craft:

Materials: 2 paper plates, black glitter paper, green card stock, pipe cleaners, aluminum foil, stapler, scissors, and glue

Directions: Cut out the center of one of the paper plates for an opening.  Cut a circle, the same size as the paper plate, out of sparkly black glitter paper and glue it onto the back paper plate.  Cut out and glue circles for planets onto this background.  Create a ring around the planet by bending a pipe cleaner and gluing in place.

Fold aluminum foil around the front paper plate and into the circular opening that you cut out. Glue the aluminum foil into place.  Use green card stock and pipe cleaners to create a little green alien and attach it to the front paper plate for a neat 3D effect.  Staple the front and back plates together and attach some string to the back so you can hang up this cute craft on the wall!

4. Make an Alien Head Band

alien head band

What a fun dress up/ dramatic play idea.  I love the pipe cleaners and big googly eyes!  I’ve made similar alien headbands, by simply using construction paper for the headband and tentacles (that’s what I call the long things the eyes are connected to)

This idea uses a few more materials but I really like the look of the finished product!

7. Make A Space Collage

Draw circles on a piece of paper and have kids paint them.  Cut them out.

Use a toothbrush to flick some paint on a piece of black construction paper.

Glue the painted circles on and you have a cool space collage!

8. Play with Homemade Galaxy-Doh

I love the colors in this play-doh!  Combine the ingredients to make the base, then let kids add glitter, stars, and marbles to create their own galaxy!  Recipe and full instuctions here on FairyDustTeaching.com

9. Make a Paper Plate Flying Saucer

flyingsaucer

This page on CraftsByAmanda.com will show you how to put together a cool paper plate flying saucer craft.  In her instructions she uses a hot glue gun, but I would let the kids use a bottle of white Elmer’s glue to paste the craft jewels on.

10. Create A Solar System Mobile

solar system printable thumbnailThis free solar system printable of the planets and sun in our solar system makes for a great solar system mobile.  You can download a PDF of the solar system image by clicking here or on the image on the right.

Punch holes on the edge of a paper plate where you want to attach the planets.  I put holes on the outer edge for the planets, and have the sun hanging from the middle.  You can also forgo the hole punching altogether, and just tape the pieces onto the paper plate.

Have your kids decoplanet-mobilerate the paper plate with their name and stars or even black paint if you want.

When they are done decorating, put the plate aside and let them color and cut out the planets.  You can set each student’s planet cut outs on the plate they decorated.  This is a good way to store them if you are making a whole bunch, especially with younger kids because most of them will need help attaching the planets.

Connect a piece of string to the back of each planet cutout with tape and tie or tape to each plate.

You can tape the mobile directly on the ceiling or you can poke 2 holes in the middle of the plate with scissors and tie on a string so you are able to hang up the mobile.

Draw A Funky And Fun Clown House

Bubbles, Bozo, Balloons and Pies! A fun clown house to make that’s full of surprise!

For this silly clown house craft, a piece of paper is divided into sections and you can draw a different picture in each “room”. Use a ruler to draw lines to divide the paper or you can just fold the paper into even sections.

You will need markers, white copy paper, and a ruler
(optional) for this activity.

Above is an example of a clown family doing different things in their clown house.

Download FREE Clown Girl Clip Art from TeachersPayTeachers.com

To make this clown house drawing, first fold a piece of paper into 4 or 6 sections.  You can also use a ruler to divide the paper into sections if you prefer.

Draw a different room in each section of your paper.  You can add a living and dining room, bathroom, closets, basement, laundry room, and bedroom to start.

Make sure to add lots of colors and clowns!  The trick to drawing clowns is give them big shoes and wild, colorful hair and outfits.  Use lots of polka-dots, swirls, and curly-Q’s when decorating their costumes.  You can make them look like they are wearing clown makeup but drawing x’s as their eyes, and a red dot as their noses.  I like to make them look like they are pouting, so I give them heart-shaped lips.

You can draw some stairs and add windows to make your drawing look more like a home.

Add more clowns, pets, robots, and anything else you can think of to make your drawing more colorful and interesting!
