Outer Space, Space Shuttle, Astronauts and Aliens – Here are 9 Easy Space Crafts for Kids! Check out my Outer Space Crafts and Activities Board on Pinterest for even more Space-Themed activities!

1. Make a Paper Space Shuttle Craft

For this space shuttle craft, you can make your own space shuttle or rocket ship and a fun outer space scene by using construction paper!

Materials

  • Black and yellow construction paper
  • Additional construction paper and scraps of various colors
  • Glue Sticks

Directions

1. Assemble the space ship, using various shapes of construction paper.

2. Decorate the background by cutting out planets and stars and gluing them onto the black construction paper (space stickers would also work well for this part.)

3. Glue the space ship onto the background.

Note: You can prepare different shapes ahead of time that kids can use to “build” their space shuttle.

Add space stickers for a fun twist!

3. Create a Portal to Outer Space with Paper Plates

Source: http://funfamilycrafts.com/space-ship-porthole/

I couldn’t find directions for this cute craft but it looks like it was made by using two paper plates, construction paper, pipe cleaners, and aluminum foil. Here is how I would make this craft:

Materials: 2 paper plates, black glitter paper, green card stock, pipe cleaners, aluminum foil, stapler, scissors, and glue

Directions: Cut out the center of one of the paper plates for an opening.  Cut a circle, the same size as the paper plate, out of sparkly black glitter paper and glue it onto the back paper plate.  Cut out and glue circles for planets onto this background.  Create a ring around the planet by bending a pipe cleaner and gluing in place.

Fold aluminum foil around the front paper plate and into the circular opening that you cut out. Glue the aluminum foil into place.  Use green card stock and pipe cleaners to create a little green alien and attach it to the front paper plate for a neat 3D effect.  Staple the front and back plates together and attach some string to the back so you can hang up this cute craft on the wall!

4. Make an Alien Head Band

alien head band

What a fun dress up/ dramatic play idea.  I love the pipe cleaners and big googly eyes!  I’ve made similar alien headbands, by simply using construction paper for the headband and tentacles (that’s what I call the long things the eyes are connected to)

This idea uses a few more materials but I really like the look of the finished product!

6. Make a Space Book

I think this is the greatest thing.  Full instructions here.

7. Make A Space Collage

space collage

Draw circles on a piece of paper and have kids paint them.  Cut them out.

Use a toothbrush to flick some paint on a piece of black construction paper.

Glue the painted circles on and you have a cool space collage!

8. Play with Homemade Galaxy-Doh

I love the colors in this play-doh!  Combine the ingredients to make the base, then let kids add glitter, stars, and marbles to create their own galaxy!  Recipe and full instuctions here on FairyDustTeaching.com

9. Make a Paper Plate Flying Saucer

flyingsaucer

This page on CraftsByAmanda.com will show you how to put together a cool paper plate flying saucer craft.  In her instructions she uses a hot glue gun, but I would let the kids use a bottle of white Elmer’s glue to paste the craft jewels on.

10. Create A Solar System Mobile

solar system printable thumbnailThis free solar system printable of the planets and sun in our solar system makes for a great solar system mobile.  You can download a PDF of the solar system image by clicking here or on the image on the right.

Punch holes on the edge of a paper plate where you want to attach the planets.  I put holes on the outer edge for the planets, and have the sun hanging from the middle.  You can also forgo the hole punching altogether, and just tape the pieces onto the paper plate.

Have your kids decoplanet-mobilerate the paper plate with their name and stars or even black paint if you want.

When they are done decorating, put the plate aside and let them color and cut out the planets.  You can set each student’s planet cut outs on the plate they decorated.  This is a good way to store them if you are making a whole bunch, especially with younger kids because most of them will need help attaching the planets.

Connect a piece of string to the back of each planet cutout with tape and tie or tape to each plate.

You can tape the mobile directly on the ceiling or you can poke 2 holes in the middle of the plate with scissors and tie on a string so you are able to hang up the mobile.

Fire Truck Song by Ivan Ulz – Lyrics and Music Video

Kids absolutely love the Fire Truck Song by Ivan Ulz.  Make up movements or do sign language  to go along with the words in the song.  This song is very catchy so you and your kids most likely will be singing The Firetruck Song for the rest of the day after you listen to it one time!

For the guitar part,  I like to play air guitar and the kids think this is really fun too! The music video is posted below the lyrics for your viewing pleasure.

Fire Truck Song Lyrics by Ivan Ulz

firetruck

Fire truck, fire truck,

I want to ride on a fire truck!

Fire truck, fire truck,

I want to ride on a fire truck!

I want to sleep in the fire station.

Wake me up when the fire bell rings

I’m gonna put on my hat,

Put on my coat,

Put on my boots

I’m gonna slide down the pole,

Wheeeeeeeeeeeee!

And then I’m gonna get into my

Fire truck, fire truck

I want to ride on a fire truck!

Fire truck, fire truck

I want to ride on a fire truck!

I’ve got a hook and ladder, a hook and ladder.

I climb that ladder and I hold on tight!

I’m gonna get out the hose and I’m gonna

Shoot that water, shoot that water,

Shoot that water from the hose on my

Fire truck, fire truck

I want to ride on a fire truck!

Fire truck, fire truck

I want to ride on a fire truck!

When that fire truck comes near,

People put their hands right over their ears.

They do that because the noise is so loud from the siren on my

Fire truck, fire truck

I want to ride on a fire truck!

Fire truck, fire truck

I want to ride on a fire truck!

When that fire is all put out

I’m gonna jump into my fire truck and turn it around.

I’m gonna go back to the fire station.

I’m gonna have a hot hot bath,

And hot hot food like hot hot chicken,

Hot hot macaroni and cheese,

And hot hot broccoli

And for dessert I’m gonna have some cold cold cold ice cream!

Then I’m gonna brush my teeth,

Jump into bed,

Pull the covers up to my head and dream about my

Fire truck, fire truck

I want to ride on a fire truck!

Fire truck, hey, fire truck

I want to ride 0n a fire truck!

Fire truck, fire truck

I want to ride 0n a fire truck!
